Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a supportive process that helps you explore emotions, gain insight, and foster personal growth. There are many approaches, and every therapy journey is unique in its own way.
Is it covered by insurance?
Yes, it is covered by various insurance companies in different provinces. It’s recommended to check your specific plan details before starting.
What can I expect in my first session?
In your first session, we’ll get to know each other, discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, and explore your goals. It’s a safe space to ask questions and begin understanding the process.
Where are you located?
The office is located at 1235 Bay Street, downtown Toronto, easily accessible by public transportation or personal vehicle.
How long are the sessions?
Individual therapy and counselling sessions typically last 50 minutes, while couples sessions are 60 minutes.
What types of therapy do you offer?
I offer psychotherapy for individuals and couples, both in-person and online.
Sessions are available Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 7 PM. The practice is closed on weekends. I don't check my email or phone over the weekend, but I will get back to you as soon as possible once the week begins.
What are your working hours?
Is there a parking area?
There isn’t a designated parking spot, but several parking lots are available nearby. It’s recommended to check the area in advance for your convenience.
The standard fee is $100 for individual and $120 for couples sessions.
What is the fee of your services?
Yes, reduced rates may be available depending on availability.
Do you offer a sliding scale or reduced rates?
What approaches do you use in therapy?
I use psychodynamic, emotion-focused, mindfulness-based, trauma-informed, parts work, and humanistic approaches, often integrating existential psychotherapy. The approach depends on your unique needs. Visit the About Me page to learn more.
How confidential are sessions?
All sessions are strictly confidential within the limits of professional ethics and legal requirements. Your privacy is always respected and protected.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations may incur a cancellation fee.
What age groups do you work with?
I work with clients 16 and older, including adolescents and adults.
How can I schedule a session?
I always begin with a 15-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit and can move forward together. Reach out to me to schedule it.
Psychotherapy is not advice-giving or a quick fix. It’s different from coaching, mentoring, or self-help guidance, and instead focuses on exploring emotions, thoughts, and experiences in a supportive and reflective space.
What is not psychotherapy?
A consultation is a brief, 15-minute online session to connect, discuss your needs, and see if we’re a good fit before deciding to start the psychotherapy process. There is no commitment or payment required.
What is a consultation?
What platform do you use for consultations and online sessions?
JaneApp is used for all meetings. The platform is encrypted and secure, and an invitation is sent to your email about 2 hours before the scheduled meeting.
Do you diagnose?
No, psychotherapy does not involve providing medical or psychiatric diagnoses.
Is the building accessible?
Yes, the building is accessible for clients with mobility or other special needs. Please reach out in advance to discuss any specific accommodations.
Whether it’s your first time in therapy or you have previous experience, you may still have questions about how it works or simply want a general idea of the process. You may find this page helpful as you prepare to take the next step.
If you still have questions, that’s completely normal! Deciding to start therapy is not always simple. Don’t hesitate to reach out to discuss anything further. (P.S. I love getting questions!)
Have more questions?
What is your preferred method of contact?
Email is the best way to reach me because I may be in sessions or unavailable at times. You’re welcome to call or text, but I’m generally more accessible through email.
